Call Your Council Member

The most important thing you can do is call Council Member Corey Johnson. Since the Garment Center is part of Corey's district, he has the most important vote on the district re-zoning. Call him now at (212) 564-775.

We fought this battle in 2009 and won.
We will fight again and we will win again!
— Robert Savage, CEO of NANETTE LEPPORE
We need to keep the garment center, and save these jobs. The re-zoning would have devistating effects. As a young designer in this economy and these trying times, starting my own business already feels so out of reach. Changing the zoning law will leave us with absolutely no hope for our creative futures.
— Caitlin Leighton, Technical Designer at Jones New York
As a local accessories designer and maker I rely on the resources that the Garment District provides, and the professional relationships that I have built over years with various purveyors of goods and services conveniently concentrated in the Midtown West area. I am seeing many of these businesses struggle as they feel the squeeze of rising rents, it is becoming common for businesses to double up in one space and still be paying more rent than previously. The fashion industry in New York City is as relevant as finance, real estate, and theater, and should be aided by the city, not dismantled.
— Sara Hull, Local Accessories Designer
